Which Type of Boat is Right For you?
Find yourself thinking about buying a boat, but not sure where to start?
There are basically three types of powerboats: those made for cruising, those made for fishing, and those made explicitly for water sports. So, your first decision is relatively simple: why do you want to buy a boat and, how do you plan to use it?
If you’re looking to go fishing most of the time, go for a fishing boat. Looking to beef up your wake boarding and waterskiing skills? Time for a boat that handles well and comes with a wake or ski tower. Or maybe you just want to enjoy the summer sights and sunshine - then its time to optimize for comfort and space: a cruiser is in order. Is there a boat that fits all of these criteria?
What about when it comes to more specific decisions you have to make? Where do you go from there? Well, first off, you want to consult somebody who has experience boating in multiple different types of boats. But before you do that, consider the following question: how much time do you actually have to dedicate to boating? Your answer to that question will guide your decisions on the following fronts:
Inboard or outboard engine?
Center console or cuddy cabin?
Deck boat or pontoon?
Bowrider or high-performance?
Flats boat or bass boat?
25 footer or 35 footer?
Gas or diesel?
Those are just a fraction of the many decisions you’ll have to make when deciding what kind of boat is right for your lifestyle. Maybe you’ll decide that boating is going to be a quick, fun, and carefree activity for you and your kids: in that case, you’ll want something that doesn’t require a lot of prep, and that you can maintain easily: a center console with an outboard engine. Or perhaps you’ve decided that you want a boat that works for overnight trips: sounds like you’ll need a cabin to sleep in!
In any case, knowing the way you’d like to use your new boat is the first step. You’ll want to work with somebody who knows how to turn your wishes into reality as quickly and simply as possible.
